Ear Candy: Washed Out

Since 2009 Washed Out, a.k.a. Ernest Greene, has been producing some of the most beautiful melodies I have heard in quite some time. Like most, he found it difficult to find a job after graduating from college. He moved back to his hometown of Perry, GA and began producing songs in his bedroom, which from what I have read was his parents basement. I first discovered his music accidentally on iTunes when looking for another album. His most recent album Within and Without is like the soundtrack to the perfect beach day...or a day traveling through the lovely Icelandic countryside like the music video for Amor Fati, the fourth track off the album. Washed Out's Within and Without was released July 12th and is currently available on iTunes.

Concert of a lifetime

My most favorite artist of all time, Imogen Heap, was recently at the Filmore Theatre in Miami Beach, to which I had the privilege of attending. And let me tell you, she was magnificent. Ever since I discovered Frou Frou's album in the bargain bin at Sam Goody all those years ago I have been utterly obsessed. Her style is captivating. I was FRONT ROW, literally two feet from her. It was a religious experience to say the least.


Even her three opening acts were incredible. My favorite being Mr. Ben Christophers. His voice was simply fantastic. He is someone I would love to hear more of.


She is a goddess.

Expected.

Life just gets busy sometimes. Graduation, and a slew of other things have kept me from keeping up to date with my little blog. I was warned that this would happen once I started blogging and I have unfortunately fallen victim to it. Anyway, instead of making excuses let me fill you in on some amazing things that have been happening lately.

One of my most favorite Internet video sensations, Bon qui qui (a.k.a. Anjela Johnson) recently performed at my local Improv. She was incredible! And one thing I was really impressed with was her ability to make the entire audience laugh without using any fowl language. Not that I am a saint by any means, but I find it fantastic when comics can avoid cussing and be more entertaining than those that use a cuss word every two sentences. I even got the chance to meet her (TWICE) and she was so so sweet! We briefly discussed her show and she asked how she sounded. It was quite the fabulous evening if I do say so myself.

FINALLY-New Christina...almost.

If you are like I am, and have been waiting for literally YEARS for some new Christina, the wait may be nearing an end...Her official website's first countdown is now over. They just released the cover artwork for her 'comeback' single, "Not Myself Tonight". According to reports, the pop star collaborated with recording artist Sia on several tracks on her new album. Pre-order, I think yes.

FINALLY

Released March 1st in England, Ellie Goulding's Debut album, Lights, is an electro-pop sensation that will be shining long after first listen. I was able to obtain a copy (finally), and let me just say, it's incredible. After being named a BBC’s Sound of 2010 artist, the pressure to deliver was on. Ellie certainly delivered. "Starry Eyed", and "Under the Sheets" are the two biggest singles off the album currently, but the other tracks are just as enjoyable. I can't stop listening to it.

Finally. I have been waiting for this day for quite some time. As you may seem to have noticed I post a lot about Ellie Goulding. Well, after months of waiting here it is. And apparently Ellie decided to place her album release just in time for my birthday on March 1st (there is a God). Its exactly what I would expect to get from her. Glitter, slow motion, and fun hand movements. What more could you ask for?

I need to blog more. Not that you need to know that, because you clearly see there has been some time since my last post. Getting all that aside, it is now 2010. Time for resolutions to be made and new beginnings to begin. So starts a new chapter in everyone's life. On that note. Welcome to 2010! I have already been having a great year and its only day 5, I hope you have as well.

Resolution #1: Blog more. Resolution #2: Stop breaking promises to blog more.

Ear Candy: New Ellie Goulding!!!

I am so in love with this girl. Ellie Goulding is super fantastic, and her new single "Under the sheets" is exactly what my ears were craving. You need to listen to this song. She's gonna be HUGE. Love Love LOVE her.

GLEE

Unless you've been living under a rock, you've heard about the hit new show on FOX, GLEE. From Ryan Murphy, the creator of Nip/Tuck (another fantastic t.v. drama), comes this hour-long musical high school comedy drama (damn), centered around a diverse drama group (GLEE club), and the teacher who is striving to make it a success. I'm not going to lie, the first thing I thought when I saw the trailer for the show was that it was going to be High School Musical for the FOX Network (clearly not impressive). But upon seeing the pilot, I fell in love. Despite being a musical comedy, the show is touching on some tough issues such as teen pregnancy & homosexuality. Episode 4, "Preggers", shows the 14 year old, Chris Colfer not only both coming out to his football loving father, but also becoming the football teams star kicker. Yes, he did all this while jamming out to Beyonce (a tad stereotypical), but it is still refreshing to see a gay character doing things out of the norm. The show still has a long way to go, so we shall see how it develops.

Style Icon: BRAD GORESKI

The Rachel Zoe Project on Bravo is by far one of my favorite reality shows. I think Rachel (I die) is fabulous, but her assistant Brad totally steals the show. His impeccable style, witty banter, and chic glasses make him not only the star of the show, but a fashion icon. Vogue intern turned assistant stylist to the stars, this native Canadian is certainly one to watch. I am obsessed with his retro-preppy style. Bow ties, cardigans, and retro frames are at the top of my must have list!

The September Issue

Fashion is a religion, Vogue is the bible.

In 2007 the September issue of Vogue weighed nearly 5 pounds, making it the single largest issue of any magazine ever printed. R.J. Cutler directed and produced the film that takes us inside the inner workings of Vogue, and follows the legendary editor, Anna Wintour, through the production of the record breaking issue. This all access film takes us where not many ever get to go. Wintour and her phenomenal team produce not only a magazine, but an icon of American fashion. The September Issue has been called the real-life The Devil Wears Prada, and in many ways it is. What Wintour says goes, she doesn't apologize, and she ultimately decides what's in and what's out. Obsessed

Working on Worth Avenue has its advantages. I love seeing the new display windows at Saks every week, they are always to eye catching yet so simple. This weeks bright yellow canvas painted background with the louboutin display was gorgeous! But Louis Vuitton is another story. Every time I walk past their window I see THE bag. Its perfect. School, work, everywhere. AND room inside for my new macbook. If only I had an extra $1500 sitting around. I am more financially responsible than that! Ugh, but its so pretty. That's why I thought it deserved its own post.

I know, I know...its been a while.

Upon the commencement of this blog, my original intent was to stay on top of certain current events, etc. etc. Well as you may have noticed I haven't been the best about this, and for that I apologize. Life just gets busy and things fall through the cracks. My current goal is to post AT LEAST once a week.

With that said, I had a FABULOUS shopping day in Miami on Monday. Hitting hotspots like Bal Harbour & Lincoln Road Marc Jacobs was amazing. Got myself a new tote and wallet, just to name a few. AND hit the end of season sale at Zara and found a gorgeous two button suit for-85$?!! I know, best deal of the year thus far. As with any suit purchased at a retailer, I have to take it to the tailer to get the perfect fit, but still a small expense next to the steal I got for it.

HGTV is better than Prozac.

Yes, some have called me odd, but no matter what else is happening on television, nothing helps me wind down after a long day at work like HGTV. After watching the news, which is always negative, you need something to life your spirits, what better than a room remodel? There is something so relaxing about watching either property virgins search for their first home, or house hunters looking for that perfect spot to call home. I am addicted and I am not ashamed.

Must See

I don't know about you, but I am a lover of a hearfelt captivating film, and from the looks of the trailer this movie is going to be one of those films that everyone needs to see. The Stoning of Soraya M. won't be out until September, but critics are already anticipating this fall's release.

The film was adapted from French-Iranian journalist Freidoune Sahebjam's 1994 novel. Directed by Cyrus Nowrasteh, the film is set in a remote Iranian village where academy nominated actor Shohreh Aghdashloo plays Zahra, a woman who risks her life to tell the story of her niece who, just weeks earlier met her unfortunate end. Her powerful tale not only exposes the despicable law-less treatment of women, but also unveils secrets of the Iranian mob. Her only hope is that Sahebjam can escape with her story in order for the world to see the rampant violence of a country where women are worthless.

Check out the trailer. Definitely a must see.
